Project description

Tobacco is the cause of various diseases and deaths worldwide. It is known that tobacco consumption increases the level of genetic damage in the cell and causes several types of cancer. In recent years, one of the most popular forms of tobacco consumption is hookah smoking. In 2019, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of the Canton of Sarajevo financed the project “Hookah – pleasure or threat” intended for young people in order to demonstrate to them the direct genotoxic effects of hookah consumption and thus act preventively in terms of preventing these and similar forms of risky behavior and protection of their own health. The goal of the project is to raise the awareness of young people about the effects of hookah consumption on genetic material, while encouraging young people to make the right decisions and choices because they are largely responsible for their genetic heritage and future offspring.
