Activities

2022

WThe work of the Association of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022 was marked by numerous and diverse activities that the Association carried out either independently or in cooperation with partner institutions. The project “VITA – production of video material from biology and genetics”. Within the mentioned project, five (5) video contents were published, which are available to the public via FB and YouTube channels, as well as on the website of GENuBiH. As part of the summer school organized in 2022 for preschoolers and junior elementary school students by the “Sinapse” Association, GENuBIH participated in an educational workshop on the structure of genetic material, the appearance and method of analyzing human chromosomes, and the significance of these analyzes in diagnostics and scientific research. In September, a workshop on genome editing technology “Workshop on Genome Editing in Bosnia and Herzegovina” was held. The workshop was organized and financially supported by the American Embassy in Sarajevo through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and GENuBIH.  The General Assembly of IUTOX (International Union of Toxicology) made a decision that Sarajevo and the Association of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina will host the 13th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries, which will be held together with the 5th Congress of Geneticists of Bosnia and Herzegovina with international participation in 2027. In 2022, the Association applied for and received financial support for the realization of several scientific and professional events from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Science and Education of the FBiH, and the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Youth of Sarajevo Canton.

2021
The Genetic Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina focused a significant part of its capacity on organizing the 2nd Congress of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina with international participation and the accompanying Workshop on Advanced Biotechnology “Workshops on Advanced Biotechnology in Bosnia and Herzegovina – novel tools, safety measures, and ethical issues in genetic manipulation” supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The congress and workshop were realized with great success and interest of foreign and domestic scientists and students and with positive public criticism. In 2021, the Association successfully implemented a project entitled “Mobile Team for Differential Detection of SARS-COV-2 in the elderly and immobile persons in the Sarajevo Canton”, partially funded by BH POST. In the past year, the Association became a member of the European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EEMGS), which created the possibility of membership and accompanying benefits for members of GENUBiH. In 2020, the Association secured collective membership in IUTOX (International Union of Toxicology) and as a result, in 2021, successfully applied for the organization “13. Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (CTDC13), which is held every three years, and the Association should host the Congress in 2027. Seven new members have joined the association.
2020

In 2020, mainly marked by corona virus pandemic, the Genetic Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina focused the majority of its capacity on the implementation of the project for young people “Water pipe – pleasure or threat” supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth from the budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2019. The project was realized with great success and positive public criticism. In 2020, the Association, which was unfortunately marked by the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, provided partial funding from BH POŠTA for the application “Mobile team for differential detection of SARS-CoV-2 in the elderly and immobile in the Sarajevo Canton”. In the past year, the Association has nominated its membership for the EBMG BMGG CME Registration system and the Congress of the European Society of Human Genetics 2020. As a part of public communication at the invitation of the Parents’ Council of the Dobrinja Gymnasium, a lecture on the pandemic crisis was held. The Association continuously provided electronic publication of the Bulletin of the Genetic Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and secured a collective membership in the International Union of Toxicology. Three new members have joined the association.

2019

During the 2019, the Genetic Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina focused the majority of its capacity on the realization of the First Congress of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina with international participation, followed by the international workshop „COMET Workshop-Basic Comet assay techniques“ which was realized with the great success. The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton has supported the project: “Water pipe – pleasure or threat“, aimed for the youth in Sarajevo Canton. The Association continued with electronic publication of the Bulletin of the Genetic Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and provided collective membership for its representatives a in the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG). Twenty-two new members have joined the association.

2018

We successfully completed project „Head thinking – genes saving“. In the field of lifelong education, two educational workshops „Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) – practical and theoretical workshop“ were organised for all interested participants. Three issues of the Bulletin of the Association of Genetics in BiH have been published. We had initiated activities for collective membership in European Society of Human genetics (ESHG). We have applied for the Projects call of Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina “Programs for preparing projects and potential candidates for budget from fund H202” for 2018, and ensure funds for realization of „COMET workshop“. We have continuously posted different activities on the web and the Facebook page of the Association. The Association has been complemented by seven new members.

2017

During the 2017, we participated in European Researches Night in Sarajevo and Banja Luka and appropriately celebrated 25th of April – International DNA day. We consider that our the most important achieve in 2017. was electronic publication – Bulletin of the Association of Genetics in B&H. Representatives of the GENuBIH in the collaboration with Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Sarajevo University, successfully organised two theoretical and practical workshops „Isolation of DNA from human, animal and plant material“ with a large number of participants. In 2017, the Association started realization of project „Head thinking – genes saving“, supported by the Ministry of education and science of Sarajevo Canton. Nine new members joined the Association.
