CSI SCHOOL – from theory to laboratory practice

Project description

The project “CSI SCHOOL – from theory to laboratory practice” (2023) was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Youth of Canton Sarajevo, and organized by the Youth Support Section of the Association of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina (GENuBiH). The aim of the project was to empower young scientists through practical and informal education in the field of forensic genetics. The workshop was held at the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Sarajevo, and brought together 14 senior-year students from natural, health, and medical sciences. Throughout the three-day program, participants attended introductory lectures in forensic science, collected their own buccal swab samples, and performed all key steps of DNA analysis, including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and DNA profile generation.  At the end of the workshop, participants received certificates of completion along with their DNA profiles. Through evaluation questionnaires, they also provided feedback that will contribute to the improvement of GENuBiH’s future educational activities.
